Have you ever had Mormons come to your door to talk to you about their religion? What is your initial response - is it to simply send them away without talking to them? Chances are you aren't alone in this, as many people are uncomfortable talking about religion and are uneasy around strangers to begin with. Since so many are not interested, why then do Mormons come to your door?

Not many people who claim to be Christian think that it's their responsibility to preach, and very few think of it as their responsibility to talk to strangers about their beliefs. Most think that preaching is something done by their minister or priest every Sunday from the pulpit. Preaching is not done by the members of the church. However, Mormons are a bit different in their views on what it means to preach. They feel that it's a responsibility of theirs to spread what they feel is an additional gospel or testament of Jesus Christ. Young men who are qualified are sent on two-year preaching tours, often in pairs.

What makes Mormons different from other religions who preach to strangers is that they are often not speaking to people about just what the Bible says, and rarely do they even carry a Bible. Most feel that their beliefs have superseded many of the teachings of the Bible and that their interpretation of scripture is what is most important. Mormons who come to your door are probably going to have with them just the Book of Mormon, which they feel is that additional testament or witness of Jesus Christ.

Mormons take what they see as their responsibility of preaching very seriously, which is why you may soon find one at your door!
