Christian Education and the Special Needs Child

Well, as a parent of a special needs child I though it fitting to make mention of an injustice, I have both witnessed first hand and read accounts of. The Christian education system is the United States is full of unique and well rounded educational programs adding thousands of highly educated and honorable students into the work force every year. However, as Christian institutions go: they are drastically and intentionally falling behind when it comes to the special needs child. It is important to understand that this article is not to be used as evidence why Christian education should not exist, but rather a stern warning, that excluding any of Gods children is unacceptable. For all intents, I am discussing primary though 12 grade programs.

Obviously, not all Christian education programs are guilty of this; however, well into a greater majority are intentionally guilty. Many of these programs proclaim their superiority in test scores and college placement while all the while maintaining policies that exclude children. This is a mark against a Christian institution and those who promote such as situation should be counseled on their error. I have always wondered why the Christian school system can get away with such bigotry and have finally realized how powerful pride and vanity can be when it comes to a private institutions personality identity.

There has been an argument that many Christian schools are too small to hire additional teachers for a Special Needs Program. This is only true of the severely handicapped child. In this case a school who can not admit a severely handicapped child must be able to direct a Christian parent to a Christian institution who does accept them. Now, most children in the Special Needs category are not severely handicapped and even in a small class room a teacher and her aid can teach the child. The excuses by Christian Program Administrators that it can not be done is incorrect and is on its face an archaic. No longer should it be permitted that any child is forced into a Public School situation.

You know I just thought about something: why do we have private Christian schools any way: they should all be shut down. The reason: well because we are separating our children from the world and taking from them their ministry to the public school system. I have a new article coming as you can see. However, the above still stands.
